Leglocks are incredibly devastating submissions, especially in a no gi grappling context. And the inside heel hook from the 411 position (aka the saddle, the cross ashi, and the honey hole) is one of the most powerful leglock attacks in no gi grappling.
As this attack becomes more popular people are inevitably getting better at defending it. Right now the most common defence by far is to turn the hip and slip the knee out.
It’s super frustrating to do all that work to get to this great position only to have someone escape. That’s why I’m giving you 3 competition-proven ways in the video below that’ll shut down this hip-turn escape and finish your opponent no matter how he tries to squirm out of your submission!
00:00 – Counter Number 1, the Rolling Dig
07:05 – Counter Number 2, Inverting to Backside 50/50
11:56 – Counter Number 3, Connecting to the Hip
Mastery of a technique requires you to know the technique itself, but it ALSO requires you to know the counters AND how to counter those counters. It’s only when you know what your opponent might do and how to shut that down that you truly become proficient with an attack!
